MONTPELIER, Vt. — The company that owns the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant says officials are pleased Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell has finished an investigation of misstatements by company executives and won't be filing criminal charges.
Entergy Corp. spokesman Michael Burns says the company takes seriously its responsibility to deal honestly with stakeholders, and that it disciplined the employees involved in the misleading statements.
Meanwhile, Gov. Peter Shumlin has issued a statement saying he respects Sorrell's decision.
But the governor says it's clear Entergy made false statements when it said Vermont Yankee didn't have underground pipes carrying radioactive substances. Those statements came less than a year before radioactive tritium was found leaking from underground pipes at the plant. Read More
